Long ago, three men were cutting stone in a French quarry.
A traveller passed by and, noticing their hard labour, stopped to ask what they were doing.
He asked the first man, “What are you doing?”
Without looking up, the man replied, “Cutting stone.”
He asked the second man, “What are you doing?”
The man answered, “Earning 30 francs a day.”
Finally, he asked the third man, “What are you doing?”
The third man stood up, smiled, and said,
“I’m helping to build the greatest cathedral in all of France.”
